Marriott Minneapolis Mall of America, led by renowned
Executive Chef Everton Clarke.
For nearly 20 years, Clarke has worked with JW
Marriott, and his culinary skills have taken him all over the
world with the hotel brand, from Dubai, to Jordan, and
now, Bloomington. Clarke began cooking at a young age,
learning from home economics in high school, watching
his mother and trusting his instincts.
“Cooking just came to me as something natural,”
Clarke says, recalling that as a child he dreamed of
becoming a chef. “In Connecticut, there was a Marriott
across from where I lived, and they had a revolving
restaurant on top. … I wanted to be a part of it because I
thought it looked so cool.” Like many chefs, Clarke started
as a dishwasher and one night found himself filling in for
an absent chef. “I was offered a line cook’s position, and I
never looked back after that.” L E
